WILMINGTON, N.C — People in and around Raleigh are keeping an eye out for possible snow on Tuesday night. A winter storm watch has already been issued for the southern coast of North Carolina, where snow is also likely.
The National Weather Service in Wilmington said that along the coast, snow could fall Tuesday night. This is because it will be very cold on Monday.
The National Weather Service in Morehead City says that there is a greater chance of 2 inches of snow along the Outer Banks.
Forecasters said that places of the Outer Banks and around Morehead City are more likely to get a lot of snow late Tuesday night into Wednesday.
Forecasters say that a winter storm watch could be sent out for the coast of North Carolina on Sunday night.
Officials said on Sunday that this event could very well end up being mostly snow. They also said that the snow is not likely to melt on the ground.
Forecasters also said that winds from the north could reach 35 mph at the Outer Banks.
It’s most likely that a blizzard will happen along the Outer Banks if this happens along with any amount of snow, the Morehead City weather service office said.
A winter storm watch has already been sent out for the area around Charleston, South Carolina.
The weather service said that snow will probably start to fall along the coast and then move inland.
“Snow is most likely to be the main type of precipitation,” the weather service said Sunday afternoon. “The highest amounts are expected in parts of eastern North Carolina.”
As of Tuesday, snow will be moving along the coast, which could make the late afternoon drive more difficult.
As of Sunday afternoon, it was not clear how much snow would fall, but the National Weather Service said that along the coast, 2 inches of snow is possible.
