Two States Affected by Sandwich Recall Due to ‘Life-Threatening’ Contamination Risk

Although investigators believe the package didn’t mention it, consumers may have inferred this substance was present.

Unfortunately, one type of sandwich is being recalled due to a potentially serious health danger for people who prefer to eat quickly.

The FDA recalled CFS Cromer Food Services, Inc.’s prepackaged chicken salad sandwiches in two states on Thursday.

Cromer Food Services, Inc., the business that makes the lunchtime classic, started the recall of “chicken salad on white bread” because it included unreported milk.

Although milk is a common ingredient in recipes for cream-based chicken salads, it is also a major food allergy.

“These products were sold primarily in Micro Markets and Vending Machines located in the States of Georgia and South Carolina, and were packaged in clear plastic,” the notice reads.

Although not mentioned in the release, the company’s website states that Cromer Food goods are available for purchase in the break rooms of the Cromer Corner locations in Greenville, Spartanburg, and Anderson, South Carolina. Where else Cromer Food goods are sold is unknown.

Sandwiches bearing UPC 31166 or 13172 that were impacted by this recall were sold between December 26 and March 24.

The UPC appears beneath the bar code on the product’s packaging, whereas the date code appears on the left or right side of the bar code.

These sandwiches weigh 4.3 ounces and have a use-by date between January 3 and April 4.

Over 17,000 Pounds of Meat Recalled Due to Possible Contamination

In individuals who are allergic or sensitive to milk, food products containing undeclared milk may result in a “serious or life-threatening allergic reaction,” according to the FDA recall notice.

Common signs of a milk allergy include rash, breathing difficulties, hives, abdominal pain, and even potentially lethal anaphylaxis, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

If a consumer has one of the recalled products, they are advised to recycle it at the store for a complete refund or to throw away the sandwich.
