On Saturday, a man was badly hurt when an aircraft tug crashed into a plane that had just arrived.
The event took place at Chicago O’Hare Airport at about 7 p.m. local time.
Chicago cops reported that the tug turned over after hitting the plane’s wing, trapping the driver underneath it, according to CBS News.
The injured guy is 64 years old and was taken to hospital in critical condition with injuries to his head and lower body, it added.
An Air Wisconsin Bombardier CRJ-200 just arrived from Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport in Michigan, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Air Wisconsin is a small airline that is part of American Airlines and operates as American Eagle.
Passengers got off the plane safely and were taken to the airport by bus, according to the FAA.
An American Airlines spokesperson said, “The safety of our customers and staff is our top priority, and we are looking into this incident.”
The tug driver works for United Airlines, the airline stated in a message shared with various news sources.
“We are making sure he gets the support and care he needs,” it said.
United did not reply to Business Insider’s request for a word outside of US working hours.
This incident is one of many recent flight events in the US.
On January 28, a 66-year-old American Airlines employee died after being hit by an airport ramp car at North Carolina’s Charlotte Douglas International Airport, NBC News reported.
The next day, there was the country’s first big airline crash in almost 16 years. An American Airlines plane hit an Army Black Hawk chopper in the air above the Potomac River in Washington, DC.
