ST. LOUIS – The guy whose businesses were badly damaged when police say a woman from St. Peters set them on fire because she wasn’t allowed to drink alcohol in Puerto Rico is reacting to the news that she was arrested. People like him also think that Danielle Bertothy won’t get bond at her detention hearing later this week.
A federal grand jury charged 36-year-old Bertothy with a crime, and he was taken last week. On Friday, she went to federal court for the first time.
Surveillance cameras caught Bertothy with a gas can. He then set fire to a bar, restaurant, store, and hotel just after midnight on January 2, putting more than 20 guests in danger.
As the days went on, cops interviewed Bertothy. They then say she cut short her vacation and left the island. On Thursday, she was caught in Missouri.
Angel Luis Marrero, the owner, said that the fire destroyed almost everything he had worked so hard to get. It happened the night before when his family and friends got together at the hotel to ring in the new year. The phone call about the fire and the days that followed turned his whole life upside down.
